Elle TENS
We will show you how you can relieve the pain of labor through the skin with Elle TENS
TENS stands for transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation. Transcutaneously means "through the skin". To put it simply: a small TENS device stimulates the nerves through the skin.
During birth, the electrodes are placed on the back. As soon as a painful contraction begins, the uterus sends a pain impulse to the brain via the nerve pathways in the back. Only when the brain processes this impulse do you feel pain.
A birth TENS device now disrupts the transmission of this pain pulse from the uterus to the brain. You will still feel some pain - which will supports you in giving birth naturally - but the intensity of the pain can be reduced.
But that's not all:
In addition, your birth TENS stimulates the release of the
happiness hormone endorphin. This has a pain-relieving effect on both you and your baby.
Dealing with pain plays an important role. You have two ways to deal with the pain
Most women only try to cope with the birth pain without help. However, when pain increases during birth, medication is often used to achieve quick and effective pain relief. However, these can also pass to the baby via the bloodstream within seconds.
In addition, with each intervention in the course of birth, the likelihood of further intervention increases. An intervention cascade is started.
You allow the pain of labor, but work from the start to reduce it to a tolerable level. A birth TENS device helps you with this. The natural birth process is preserved. The TENS device works over the skin and is therefore safe for mother and baby.
You may still need medication despite TENS. This is not a problem because you can combine TENS and medication at any time. Still, it is beneficial to reduce and delay taking medication with TENS.
If intervention is only carried out later in the course of birth, the probability of going through the intervention cascade is also reduced.
